A creative studio is suing Burna Boy N20 million for copyright infringement.
Nigerian creative studio Insecta is suing Burna Boy for copyright infringement.
According to them, the music star used a creative work of theirs without compensation.
They wrote, “Towards the end of last year, we made it public that Burna Boy and Aristokrat had taken our artistic work and used it in South Africa for Burna’s performance at Essence Concert without paying or giving us any form of credit.
The silence we keep and our high level of tolerance for … (Fill in the blank space) gives a lot of power to these people who take our work as creatives for granted. You take your time, put in a lot of intellectual and physical work, then someone will start asking funny questions when you bring your bill, saying ‘Isn’t it just ordinary…?’
Then they proceed to make millions on your ‘ordinary…’ Letting this slide would only give them more grounds to keep taking advantage of our sweat without acknowledging or truly understanding the value of what we give.
So we decided to just do it. Yesterday, we filed a N20 million suit at the Federal High Court against Burna Boy and Aristokrat for copyright infringement. They’ll definitely think twice about using people’s works without paying next time. ”
We reached out to the singer’s manager who told Pulse, “they haven’t sued Burna Boy. This is defamation of character, it has nothing to do with Burna, it happened in South Africa. ”
Meanwhile, Burna Boy treated his US fans to a concert » marking his opening show for promotion of his “Outside” third studio album.
The show held on Sunday May 7, 2017 at the Playstation Theater in Times Square featuring special performances by Swizz Beatz and Jidenna .
“Outside”, his third full length project follows first and second albums “L.I.F.E” (2013) under Aristokrat records label and “On A Spaceship” under his own floated label (2015).
