A female suicide bomber who stormed Bakassi Internally Displaced (IDPs) camp in Maiduguri, was reportedly arrested by vigilant security operatives in the area.
Borno State Police Command spokesperson, Edet Okon, said the suicide bomber was arrested by men of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team, on Tuesday at about 6: 50 a.m. while lurking around the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp.
NAN reported that the spokesperson further stated that Police officers condoned off the area, diffused the bomb and apprehended the suspect who is currently in Police custody.
“On Tuesday, at about 6:50 a.m., a female suicide bomber was sighted behind Bakassi IDP camp in Maiduguri metropolis. On sighting the bomber, conventional policemen alongside the EOD team swung into action and cordoned the area, to prevent escape of the bomber into the city. “The suspect, one Zara Idriss was rendered safe, arrested and is now in custody”.
Okon who reiterated the command’s commitments to protect lives and property in the state, called on members of the public to go about their normal activities without fear and to report any suspicious movement in their localities to security agencies.
Few weeks ago, the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed that five persons were killed in the suicide bomb attack at Dalori Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp, Maiduguri on Wednesday. SEMA also confirmed that 39 others sustained various degrees of injuries in the suicide bomb attack at Dalori IDP camp, Maiduguri.
SEMA’s Chairman, Satomi Ahmad, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Maiduguri. Satomi said a female suicide bomber infiltrated the IDPs camp and detonated an explosive, killing herself and five other persons, while 39 others were wounded. He said the second suicide bomber detonated improvised explosive device at the entrance of Dalori residential quarters and blew herself to pieces. According to him, there is no casualty in the second attack.
